A message from his grandson's wife tells us that James was a donkey man on a ship, and was born in Leith, Edinburgh. (A donkey man looked after the donkey engine - one that would provide auxiliary power for use on board for things like winches rather than the main propulsion engine)
James Hutchison in the mid 1920s with his wife Isabella, who died ten years before him, and their children David (the eldest son), John ('Jackie'), Helen and Evelyn. Another daughter, Isobel, pictured below, was born on 20 September 1932.
