The SPRI archives tell us that Waters was a First Repairer on 'Southern Opal' and died in his cabin after drinking heavily. He was buried at sea at 0600 on 6 January 1951 in position 12° 15'N 65° 31'W, presumably whilst the vessel was en route for South Georgia at the start of the season.
