Brockloae was the cooper (barrel maker) on the sealing vessel Trinity, a sealer taking elephant seals for oil, which would be stored in barrels.
This older grave marker was removed indoors to the Museum at Grytviken in 2000 and replaced by a replica made by Curator Tim Carr. This older marker was actually a replica that had been made in 1919 according to the dated inscription ‘Rep 1919’ carved on it. The original can be seen in this picture, taken by Nordenskjold’s Antarctic expedition in 1902.
