Nan was the wife of Radio Operator George, and they lived at King Edward Point in the 1950s. She wrote a book 'Antarctic Housewife' about her experiences on the island.
George returned in the 1990s to take part in the refurbishment of the church. he brought Nan's ashes with him and scattered them in their favourite places. He also erected the plaque in the church.
